The 2025 Nissan Micra EV is back—and this time, it’s ditched petrol for electric power. This sixth-gen version of the iconic little hatch gets a full EV makeover, set to hit UK roads in January 2026, with pre-orders kicking off in September 2025. It’s a pretty big deal for Nissan too, as it’s part of their plan to roll out four electric models across Europe by 2027.

Underneath, it shares its bones with the new Renault 5 E-Tech, using the same CMF-BEV platform. It’s been designed in London, so it should feel right at home on our roads. Nissan haven’t given us an official price yet, but you’re probably looking at around £22,000 to start, going up to about £27,000 for the top-end version with the bigger battery.

Exterior Design

This new Micra’s had a bit of a glow-up. Whereas older versions had that classic bubble-car vibe, the 2025 EV version goes all in on the chunky SUV-inspired look. Think bold arches, tight overhangs, and bodywork that actually looks pretty slick. It rolls on 18-inch wheels as standard, and if you’re into customising, you’ll be spoilt for choice with 14+ paint colours.

It’s still compact, which is great for nipping around town, but the design amps up the attitude. There’s even a retro feel tucked in there, though it’s subtle. All in all, it looks fun, modern, and right on trend for what you expect from an electric city car these days.

Powertrain

You get two battery choices with the Micra EV: a 40kWh option that’ll do roughly 192 miles on a full charge, or a beefier 52kWh version that stretches that to about 253 miles. Either way, you’re sorted for everyday drives, and the bigger battery should make longer trips less of a worry.

If you’re using public chargers, the fast-charging setup means you can go from 15% to 80% in around 30 minutes with the larger pack—so pit-stops shouldn’t take ages.

Nissan haven’t shared exact power figures yet, but since it’s riding on the same setup as the Renault 5, we’re expecting decent punch off the line and typical EV zip. It’s front-wheel drive, which should be more than enough for city traffic and weekend trips alike. Nothing outrageous, but it’ll get you where you want to go with a bit of fun along the way.

Interior & Tech

Hop inside and you’ll notice things have levelled up quite a bit. Two 10.1-inch screens handle your infotainment and driving info, and because it’s got built-in Google tech, you can use proper Google Maps, voice commands, the whole lot. Plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are in there too, of course.

Safety and driver assist kit is decent as well—features like a driver monitoring system, Blind Spot Intervention, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert come built-in, which makes the Micra feel way more grown-up than its older self ever did.

It supports wireless updates too, so it’ll keep improving over time. There’s even vehicle-to-grid capability, which is a fancy way of saying the car could, potentially, help power your home or give energy back to the grid—not a must-have, but a pretty cool bonus if you’re into that sort of thing.

Should you buy one?

The 2025 Nissan Micra EV feels like a solid reinvention of a car loads of us grew up with—this time aimed squarely at the modern, electric age. With prices expected to slide in between £22,000 and £27,000, it’s set to go head-to-head with cars like the Renault 5 E-Tech and other small EVs.

If you’re after something electric that still feels fun, practical, and sorted for day-to-day life, the Micra EV’s got a lot going for it. The tech’s bang up to date, the design won’t get lost in a sea of grey hatchbacks, and it should handle like a dream around town.
