An electric SUV with style
Peugeot have a superb selection of cars, in different shapes and sizes, and offered in petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric. The Peugeot e-2008 is perhaps one of the most exciting choices on offer, as a modern all-electric, compact family SUV.
The Peugeot e-2008 retains the same sleek styling as the standard car (aside from the badge, you wouldn’t spot that it’s an electric vehicle), a tech-laden interior, and good electric range. But when up against rivals such as the Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric, does it stand out as the best?

Peppy electric performance
The Peugeot e-2008’s powertrain will be one you might be familiar with if you know anything about electric Vauxhalls, Citroens, or DS models, as they widely use the same underpinnings.
The e-2008 is powered by an electric motor delivering 134bhp and 260Nm of torque, and able to reach 60mph in 8.8 seconds, with a top speed of 93mph. Though because of the way the power is delivered in this electric vehicle, it actually feels quicker than these figure suggests.
A 50kWh battery is used, offering an electric range of between 191 and 206 miles (WLTP), depending on trim level and wheel size.
The real-world range is closer to 150 miles in real-world driving, which is behind that of rivals from Kia and Hyundai, but more than enough for local driving. It can also be charged using a 100kW public rapid charger, that means you can get up to 80% in just 30 minutes, which means long-distance trips can easily be managed if you stop at services with the rapid chargers (you can use our public charge map here to plan your journey). While if you plug in at home with a 7kW unit, you could expect the battery to charge in around seven hours overnight.

A refined ride
In most cases the Peugeot e-2008 is likely to be the first electric vehicle for those buying it, and it’s very well judged in that respect, and easy to get used to. While the performance is peppy, it’s not quite as lightening-quick, and certainly feels no worse for it. And if you want oomph, you can select Sport mode for maximum power, or other driving settings cap the power to maximise range.
The Peugeot e-2008 prioritises ease of driving, as its impressively refined, while also has a soft suspension setup, even considering the additional weight over a petrol Peugeot 2008.
The e-2008 doesn’t handle quite so well as a rival like the Volkswagen ID.3, but in day-to-day driving it’s a very useful and capable electric car.

Superb quality
While the Peugeot e-2008 has exterior styling that looks sharp and turns heads, it’s pleasing that Peugeot have also made the cabin equally appealing. It gets the same premium look and feel as the brand’s far more expensive models, while details like the small steering wheel and head-up digital dials make it look like nothing else in this class. The one downside is that some drivers will find the top of the steering wheel gets in the way of the dials, which isn’t ideal, but the level of technology and quality overall is superb.
And while not class-leading when it comes to interior space, there’s far more room than you get with a typical supermini. The boot measures a respectable 434 litres, and is no less spacious than a petrol-powered version of this crossover. And adults should be able to comfortably sit in the rear seats.
In terms of trim levels, the Peugeot e-2008 gets the same choice as the standard car, with five to pick from. We start with the Active Premium, which gets 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, electric folding mirrors, and LED headlights, to name just a few features. While the Allure trim offers 17-inch alloy wheels, a reversing camera, and leather-effect upholstery. And Allure Premium offers their unique 3D digital cockpit.
GT then adds a sportier styling, along with full LED headlights, a large 10-inch touchscreen, smartphone charging plate, and heated front seats, with the flagship GT Premium offering 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, Alcantara upholstery, keyless entry, and adaptive cruise control. So there’s a tremendous amount on offer.

Premium quality, moderate price
In-line with other all-electric crossovers, the Peugeot e-2008 brings a noticeable increase in price compared to a petrol model. It’s Recommend Retail Price is £32,460, and you should be able to get it for below this, in order to qualify for the Plug-in Car grant of £1,500 off, which was lowered to a £32,000 threshold in December 2021. The Peugeot e-2008 has some cheaper rivals to contend with, but as an all-electric compact SUV, with this level of tech, and such low running-costs, the lower trim versions certainly feel worth the money.

The best electric compact SUV
The Peugeot e-2008 won the Which? Best Buy for a Compact SUV in March 2021. So it’s clearly well-rated by others, as well as us. While you will find cheaper and excellent alternatives, the Peugeot e-2008 offers superior exterior styling, and interior quality, while being good to drive, and spacious enough for most small families.
While the range isn’t hugely impressive, and top-spec versions are rather expensive, if you stick to a mid-spec model then you’ll secure yourself an appealing electric vehicle, that should be very easy to live with, and offer huge fuel savings from driving all-electric.
