With the choice of electric cars continuing to grow, there’s now more choice than ever.

This includes if you’re looking for a family car, and in particular, an EV that has a big boot. So, whether it’s an MPV or SUV you’re after, here we pick out a range of different electric cars that major on practicality.

Tesla Model Y

Tesla Model Y

The Model Y has been an integral part of Tesla’s success and has helped this company to skyrocket. In fact, it’s now one of the most popular cars in Britain. This mid-size SUV, sitting below the Model X, is offered with seven seats in other markets, though UK buyers have to make do with five seats.

That said, it offers a huge amount of boot space, with Tesla quoting a figure of 864 litres. The Model Y also offers superb performance, along with an impressive range of up to 331 miles. There’s also easy access to Tesla’s dedicated Supercharger network as well.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

Volkswagen is rapidly scaling up its line-up of electric ‘ID’ models, and the one that’s really got people talking is the ID.Buzz. A modern interpretation of the firm’s iconic Microbus, it gets especially cool styling that really helps it to stand out on the road.

It’s also got a huge 1,121-litre boot with the rear seats upright and is a vastly practical choice for those needing to carry lots with them. While the Buzz is currently available as a five-seater, Volkswagen will soon introduce a long-wheelbase seven-seat version.

Audi Q8 e-tron

Audi Q8 e-tron

The e-tron was Audi’s original EV, and though it’s recently been rebranded as the Q8 e-tron, its focus on comfort, style and practicality remains as impressive as ever. In fact, with 569 litres of boot space, it’s one of the roomiest models in its class.

Rear seat space is very generous as well, while the Q8 e-tron’s high-quality cabin is a joy to spend time in. Recent changes have also seen this Audi being fitted with a much bigger battery, allowing for a range of 330 miles.

Citroen e-Berlingo

Citroen e-Berlingo

While Citroen’s e-Berlingo might not get you the most street cred out on the road, if practicality is a priority, then this van-based MPV is impossible to beat. Available in a medium body style or a longer ‘XL’, these offer a huge 775 litres and 1,050 litres of luggage space respectively.

The e-Berlingo also offers a comfortable ride and a vast amount of room elsewhere, with headroom suitable for even the tallest of drivers, and storage throughout the cabin. The claimed 171-mile range isn’t the longest, however.

Skoda Enyaq

Skoda Enyaq iV

Skoda is renowned for its cars’ practicality, and it has managed to carry this over into an electric age, too. The Enyaq was the firm’s first bespoke electric car, and it’s gone down well with buyers that appreciate its value, high-quality interior and impressive practicality.

The boot measures 585 litres with the rear seats upright, but the cabin is also packed with other practical touches to make day-to-day life easier. A range of 339 miles is very credible considering the Enyaq is cheaper to buy than many of its rivals.
