BMW’s new i7 is here, taking the firm’s popular 7 Series into the electric range. With an efficient battery-powered setup and a host of interior functions and features, the i7 looks set to arrive on the roads as one of the most futuristic luxury saloons ever.
But with so much going on with the new i7, it’s almost tricky to decipher just what is going on with this cutting-edge BMW. So we’ve picked out the top 5 things you need to know about it.
It’s got a large battery with a big range
As a large car, you’d expect the i7 to have an equally large range and that’s definitely the case. A range of up to 388 miles comes courtesy of a 102kWh battery, meaning that the i7 can definitely go the distance between trips to the plug.
Plus, the ability to charge at speeds of up to 195kW means that up to 106 miles of range can be added in as little as 10 minutes when hooked up to an appropriate charger.
There’s a lot of performance on offer too
Though it definitely has range on its side, the i7 also has a good deal of performance to offer as well. It uses a pair of electric motors – one on each axle – which combines to deliver 537bhp and 745Nm of torque. For context, the high-performance M5 Competition has 616bhp, which goes to show just how punchy this ‘regular’ i7 is.
That power output means that the i7 will manage the 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds, which is pretty impressive for a car as large as this.
The interior is packed with technology
The standard 7 Series is usually a showcase for the very latest technology that BMW has to offer and things are just the same with the i7. But the cabin isn’t strewn with buttons, with a very minimalist design instead. Even the air vents are kept hidden to maintain that streamlined aesthetic.
There’s also the option to have a massive 31-inch ‘theatre screen’ in the rear which folds down from the roof and stretches right the way across the back seats.
It’s been made with streaming in mind
Everyone loves to stream the very latest movies and TV shows and BMW seems aware of this as it has fitted the i7 with 5G internet, allowing occupants to access a super fast connection.
Plus, the i7 has Amazon Fire TV installed as standard, which means that you can stream all types of entertainment directly to the car.
Those in the front get a lot of equipment to check out too
BMW has adopted the curved display setup that you’ll find in its latest i4 and iX models for the i7. It combines two screens – one ahead of the driver and one in the middle of the dash – underneath one piece of glass to create one wraparound display.
It’s got loads of features incorporated into it, such as all of your media and navigation systems. The screen ahead of the driver can be adjusted to show a variety of different readouts and displays, too.
