Alpine’s just shown off their latest all-electric effort, the new Alpine A390 electric car. It’s a sharp-looking tri-motor performance fastback, and it’s set to land in UK showrooms in the back half of 2026. They pulled the covers off on 27 May 2025, making this the second EV in Alpine’s “Dream Garage” line-up, following on from the smaller A290.

It’s a five-seat fastback, low to the ground, that mixes Alpine’s racing roots with an all-electric future. Slick looks, a meaty tri-motor setup, and a proper emphasis on driver fun put it up against other premium electric models like the Porsche Macan EV and BMW i5.

Performance with a Twist: Tri-Motor Powertrain

What really makes the Alpine A390 stand out is the three-motor pack under the skin — one motor up front, two at the back. This setup helps it corner sharper and stick to the road better, thanks to active torque vectoring. There are two versions to choose from at launch:

– A390 GT: 400 bhp, does 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, and tops out at 125 mph

– A390 GTS: 470 bhp, hits 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds, and maxes out at 138 mph

Both run off an 89 kWh battery, and you can get up to 350 miles on a full charge if you go for the GT version. Plug it into a fast charger (up to 190 kW) and you’re looking at a top-up from 15% to 80% in about 25 minutes—pretty handy for road trips.

Sporty Yet Practical Dimensions

Even though Alpine’s aiming the A390 at electric SUVs like the Ford Capri and Cupra Tavascan, this thing looks a whole lot sportier. It’s about 4.6 metres long and only 1.5 metres tall, which actually makes it lower than most hatchbacks — it’s shorter than a VW ID.3 and barely taller than a Golf, believe it or not.

That squat stance isn’t just for looks either — it helps with aerodynamics and gives the whole thing a more purposeful, driver-focused feel. On the outside, it’s got a floating rear wing, a working rear diffuser, and a gloss black spoiler, all of which scream sporty without going over the top.

Driver-Focused Cabin with Premium Touches

Jump inside, and it’s clear this car wants you in the driver’s seat. Literally. The whole dash is angled towards the driver, with a 12.3-inch digital cluster behind the wheel and a 12-inch touchscreen next to it. You still get proper physical dials for the climate controls too, which is a nice touch.

If you go for a top-end version, there are some plush extras on offer — like heated door panels, a heated steering wheel, and sporty bucket seats finished in bright blue nappa leather. There’s also a rotary dial on the wheel that lets you control how much regenerative braking you’re getting, plus a fun little ‘OV’ (Overtake) button that gives you a 10-second power boost. Ideal for a cheeky launch or getting past slower traffic.

Big Ambitions, Tough Competition

With the A390 electric car, Alpine’s clearly trying to reach a wider bunch of drivers — not just those after a weekend toy. It’s going up against some stiff competition too, with cars like the Genesis GV60, Polestar 4, and probably most closely, the Porsche Macan EV aiming at the same mix of performance, style, and practicality.

If you’re looking for an EV that’s both fun and actually useful day-to-day, the A390 might just tick a lot of boxes. Order books should open by the end of this year for those wanting to get in early ahead of the 2026 launch.
